Fines and Costs for
Traffic and Criminal Cases:

Fines levied for traffic or criminal cases are set at the discretion of the Judge except for predetermined fines of waiverable offenses. The fine is usually scaled to the seriousness of the offense, and may differ from case to case depending on varying conditions known as mitigating circumstances. All fines collected by the Clerk's Office are documented in cash journals and sent back to the arresting authorities; city, village or township on a monthly basis.

Please keep in mind that Court costs are not charged or collected for appearing in Court. Court costs are collected to pay for the processing and handling of all traffic and criminal cases. The Clerk's operating expenses include not only salaries for the office personnel, but also include equipment, printing, and various supply expenses.

All costs collected through the Clerk's office are deposited in the general operating fund within the city of Cuyahoga Falls. In this manner, all outlying areas making up our Court jurisdiction contribute to the operating expenses of the Court.
